You may have heard or perhaps tried an e cigarette, you know, the ones with the battery and flavorings that produce a vapor that mimics the feel of smoking a real cigarette. They have been around for a few years and have recently taken off in a big way. Just look at all the info from the official TVECA, the tobacco vapor electronic cigarette association, they are the ones to turn to regarding details on city/county politics and bans.
In it’s basic form you have a battery that heats up a nicotine solution e juice inside a cartridge as you inhale, which produces a flavored vapor that looks and tastes just like smoke – only there is no smoke, the taste has been described as “cleaner” yet still fulfills the urge and desire of smoking. There are many brands and styles to choose from, but beware they are not at all created equal.
Just like any type of product out there, you have high quality and cheap knock-offs, the same is true with electronic cigarettes. Those cheap ecigs you see at the gas station? Probably the worst out of the bunch – cheaply made in China and if you try this first you will probably get a poor introduction to vaping – yeah, that’s what they call this now, since it’s not smoking… it’s #vaping (search it on any social media and you’ll see).
OK, so where can you find out more information about this and how they work? Luckily I stumbled upon a site that has a bunch of real electronic cigarette reviews with great in depth articles and detailed images, etc. This guy even has a YouTube channel where he reviews all the different brands and tells you what he thinks. Just follow the buttons on top of the site, it navigates to all his social media. It’s obvious he has been doing this for some time and tells it pretty straight.
Here’s one of his review videos talking about the brand V2 Cigs:
The V2 e cig brand has a “red tobacco” that is strikingly similar to a Marlboro red proving just how good these things can be apparently. Make sure you also check out the e cigar review there, it’s pretty entertaining.
For someone switching to an e-cigarette after smoking cigarettes for many years it can be a shock, especially if you have a bad experience from your first puff with a cheap brand. Most of the e cigs these days contain just a 3 ingredients:
- Nicotine – most brand will allow you to choose the strength so you can keep what your are used to.
- Flavorings, you can find the same tobacco or menthol you are smoking right now or choose specialty flavors like vanilla, cherry, and whole bunch more of e juice flavors.
- Propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin or a combination of both to create the actual vapor.
That is it really. Although none of them are approved by the FDA (long story, politics) most of the best e-cigarette brands use ingredients approved by the FDA or FEMA and some are even Kosher, just when you combine them it makes a new “product” and that as a whole has not yet been approved but it’s in the process.
For a lot of people who have switched, they like these e cigarettes even more as they fill the desire and the nicotine craving, plus they taste better. Common sense tells us that inhaling cigarette smoke with it’s 4,000 plus carcinogens to 3 ingredients to an e-cigarette is probably a better alternative? More info on the facts and science can be found at the CASAA website (The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association).
This is just the tip of the iceberg, once you get used to the electronic cigs, then you may want to upgrade to a vaping device where you can try out different e liquids and so forth. Give it a chance, switch, and toss those cigarettes out of your life for good this time!
